These type of architecture can be found throughout Germany. At first glance most don’t even notice that these “built” structures aren’t even real.
I was a little disenchanted at first but I then realized that they are doing as they were intended to do. Fill the the broken tooth in the built environment and create the urban charterer that would be missing without them.
They will soon be replaced with the real deal and the void in the landscape while be bridged. These temporal structures should be embraced for there ability to fill the gaps in the landscape with something tangible.
Went on an amazing tout of the graffiti tour with Esvin of the Kreuzberg area of Berlin where we learned alot of terms and un-writing rules on the scene. There are different levels of graffiti artists from the acronyms of graffiti crews like 1UP and 2LA, and there are single graffiti artists like GFA and LIFE. Then there are the more street artists that do large scale projects like the astronaunt that where done as a legal installation. All of this was really amazing and our tour guide Ben was super cool which added to the coolness of the overall experience that I would defiantly recommend to anyone that comes to Berlin.
This was followed up by a graffiti workshop where we learned the ways of laying down the flow like a pro. Below is my results after being instructed by our tour guide.
